Why Mentoring?

There is a joy in coming to discover the stirrings of God's Spirit in our lives that comes to the fore in what Wesley referred to as "Christian conference." I believe this is a gift for the mentee as well as the mentor. Plus, I remember searching for a mentor in my early years of ministry and discovering how few seem to want to commit to this endeavor.

Eugene Peterson, Christ Plays in Ten Thousand Places (among several others) - for his pastoral theology, and his high view of creation as the stage for the unfolding drama of God.
Chaim Potok, My Name is Asher Lev (among several others) - for the way he wrestles with complexities in the midst of a life of faith.
Gertrude "Biddy" Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest - for her selflessness in writing this devotional classic in the name of her late husband.
