Retirement Announcement

January 29, 2020

It is with recognition of God’s faithfulness and deep gratitude for Dr. Roger Hahn’s and Dr. Judi Schwanz’s inestimable contributions that we formally announce their retirements from NTS for the end of the 2019-2020 academic year. It is especially fitting to celebrate the teaching ministry of these two faculty alongside celebrations of NTS’s 75th anniversary. Dr. Hahn and Dr. Schwanz have taught at NTS for a combined 45 years, bridging two generations of faculty and carrying NTS through multiple program developments and educational initiatives. NTS is indebted to their ministry.

Dr. Roger Hahn is Professor of New Testament and Willard H. Taylor Chair of Biblical Theology. His 26 years as a member of the faculty at NTS included 15 years as Dean of the Faculty and directorship of the MDiv program. He joined the NTS faculty in 1994 having previously taught at Southern Nazarene University.

Dr. Judi Schwanz is Professor of Pastoral Care and Counseling and has given leadership to NTS’s chaplaincy studies, provided counseling and mentorship to students, and has served as director of the Wynkoop Center for Women in Ministry and the Doctor of Ministry program. She joined the NTS faculty in 2001 and previously taught at Western Evangelical Seminary/George Fox Evangelical Seminary.

If the impact of a professor is measured by the quality of their students and influence beyond the classroom, there are few greater models for the vocation of seminary professor. And still, those are insufficient measures to adequately acknowledge the breadth and depth of impact Dr. Hahn and Dr. Schwanz have had on the NTS curriculum, community, broader church, and respective scholarly disciplines.

Please join us in celebrating the incredible teaching ministries of Dr. Hahn and Dr. Schwanz.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a joint retirement celebration will be rescheduled soon. Check the NTS website for updates!
