I understand my calling to be to live at the intersection of academic study of Scripture and ministry in a local church. God has graciously allowed me to live out this calling both at the seminary and in a local church. The work I do at the seminary is, rightly, academic in nature and I pursue excellence in terms of helping students become aware of the latest insights of scholarship. Almost every area of study related to Scripture interests me from Biblical Archaeology, to Biblical Theology, to exegesis of Hebrew and Greek texts, to the various criticisms and methods developed across the 20th century, to the theological interpretation movement that has arisen in the past 20 years or so.

But I am also very interested in the question of how the academic resources we enjoy in the seminary context can be appropriately made use of in local church ministries. I have served as a pastor, an associate teaching pastor, evangelist, adult Sunday School teacher, and curriculum writer of discipleship materials. I am grateful that God allows me to bring the fruit of my academic study to these contexts to help people become more fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ.

I am an outdoors person. I enjoy walking and working on my 9-acre place south of Olathe, Kansas. Hiking and camping in Colorado are my favorite vacation activities. My wife and I enjoy gardening, caring for our chickens and getting started in raising a few cattle.
