Position Description


The Director of Youth Ministry works to help fulfill the purpose of Worden United Methodist Church, to be “Prayerfully striving to be Christ like, we extend hope, love, and the message of salvation to all for the Glory of God.”  Specifically, this will be pursued through the planning and implementation of activities and programs for children including group building, discipleship, worship, mission, outreach, and bible study.  The ideal candidate understands the intensity of work required to develop a youth program, is ambitious, possesses strong relational skills, is a self-starter and is passionate about helping students grow in their relationship with Christ.

Reports to: Pastor, Staff-Parish-Relations Team.


As a minimum, a director of children’s ministries needs to demonstrate the following:


●      A personal commitment to Jesus Christ as well as a strong desire to serve within the church             

●      A sense of calling to youth ministry                   

●      Ability to work with youth and the parents of youth                          

●      Excellent verbal and written communication skills                   

●      Ability to plan, organize, lead, and guide complex projects and spontaneous activities related to youth ministries                          

●      Competence in basic counseling and listening skills appropriate for youth ministry

●      Willingness to work cooperatively with others, to maintain a positive outlook and disposition, and to be flexible in solving problems                      

●      The ability to protect the reputation and integrity of others through strict confidentiality.  Refraining from indiscriminately sharing personal information is critical.  Discretion must be exercised when dealing with the public, youth and their parents, and the church’s leaders and members                         

●      Complete and maintain a current “Safe Gathering” Certificate                      

●      A minimum age of 25

●      Proficient with computer knowledge and applications

●      Musical ability is a plus, but optional

●     Transportation- must possess a valid driver’s license


  1. Weekly attendance during worship at Worden UMC is required.           
  2. Attend scheduled staff meetings
  3. Make sure that volunteers for youth events have Safe Gatherings Certification
  4. Coordinate all aspects of the Junior High and Senior High Youth Group:
    1. Host and lead activities for Senior High Youth four times per month
      1. one week - service/mission related activity
      2. one week - social activity
      3. two weeks - spiritual focus
    2. Host and lead activities for junior high Youth twice per month:
      1. one week - service/mission and/or social activity
      2. one week - spiritual focus
    3. Organizing and leading youth mission trips
  5. Weekly office hours need to be posted for at least 2 hours
  6. Other duties as assigned

Children's Pastor Part Time San Diego

Position/Title: Children’s Pastor

Job Status: Pastoral Staff 

LOcation 1550 Market St. San Diego, CA

Report to: Lead pastor, Living Water Church of the Nazarene

Purpose: Provide pastoral teaching, care, and love to the children of Living Water Church of the Nazarene and to the neighborhood of San Diego’s East Village, with particular attention to children on the streets, in local shelters, and in local low-income housing Stipend: $500/month (90-day probationary period)


• Run children’s programming for Sunday worship services o Intergenerational services leave 30-40 minutes of structured teaching time (during the sermon) o Manage curriculum for this time o Manage volunteers to help with this ministry of the church o Get to know the children of the congregation and share the love of Christ with them

• Develop and run a mid-week children’s outreach ministry

o Reach out to local families to build relationships and learn how the church can best serve the community around her o Work with us to articulate a vision for a mid-week ministry

o Build a program that lives into the vision

o Help us think creatively and collaboratively to partner with local schools and organizations in order to find and fill holes in local services, recruit volunteers, and develop a strong and sustainable program that invites local children into the hospitality of Christ through the Church

• Participate in and contribute to the larger life of the church

o Tasks and responsibilities will be shaped, in part, according to the gifts and passions of the applicant

o Tasks and responsibilities will also be shaped by the ever-changing needs and callings of a young church plant community


• A call to pastoral ministry that is established or being explored

• Experience working with children suffering poverty in an urban core (especially children who have experienced homelessness)

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field

We are looking for:

• A Children’s Pastor

o Someone pursuing a call to pastoral ministry in the church

o Someone with a heart for discipleship, leading children into the way of Jesus

o Someone who will care for the children of the church and neighborhood holistically

• A Teacher

o Someone with a heart for teaching children the basics of the faith

o Someone who can competently manage curriculum, instilling within the children the rich stories of the holy scriptures

o Someone who can identify teachable moments, especially to show children that they are loved by God and the church

• A Builder

o Someone who can lead the charge to build a program that does not yet exist

o Someone who can work independently, think critically, and manage complex systems and stressful situations

o Someone with the maturity and patience to build slowly, survive “highs” and “lows”, and be flexible in an always-changing environment

Youth Director

Avondale United Methodist Church (Kansas City, Missouri) is initiating a search for a part-time youth director. Position requirements include leading, creating, arranging and implementing various youth programs and activities that encourage spiritual growth in faith. Responsibilities also include shared responsibilities for teaching youth Sunday School class on Sunday Mornings. Communication, collaboration, and administration skills are required in addition to relationship building with youth. Multicultural experiences are preferred. CPE Residency

We are very happy to announce that we were able to raise the stipend to $30,000.
