Why Mentoring?

As an elder in the CON, I have also become certified as a Christian Life and Leadership Coach (Professional Christian Coaching Institute). I am also a Gottman Institute trained Marriage Coach. Finally, I am a certified Sexual Addiction Recovery Coach (Americal Association of Sex Addiction Therapists). I have also written a workbook titled, "Open Box Special-Discovering God's Strategic Plan for Your Life". This is useful for one to one coaching, or group settings. Over the past few years I have been leading workshops with pastors and boards in small churches on how to catch God's specific vision for their church, rather simply replicate something learned from another church body. The need for marriage health and sex addiction recovery among pastors speaks for itself. You can learn more at jimthorntonlifecoaching.com

Impactful Books

1. Renovation of the Heart, by Dallas Willard (Excellent book on heart and mind transformation.)
2. The Invitation-Transforming the Heart through Desire Fulfilled, by Tony Stoltzfus (Great insight on connecting your heart and desires to the leading of the Holy Spirit)
3. Christian Coaching, by Gary Collins (Perfect for those interested in learning about non-directive coaching. Pastors need to learn how to listen more and advise less.)
I am a relatively avid reader, so I'll just offer three.
