Rev. Gina Cordy was among 85 distinguished students graduating from NTS and receiving their degrees at commencement, just last Saturday. (The entire ceremony, including an inspiring commencement message from Dr. Tom Noble, is available to stream here)
In the days leading up to her graduation, Master of Divinity student Rev. Gina Cordy shared this heartwarming news:
NTS has been an amazing, life-changing experience for me; a place where I have felt nothing but love, support, encouragement, and accountability when needed! As I prepare to transition from student to alumnus, I would like to give back by setting up an annual $1,000 scholarship to be distributed in the fall. The scholarship may increase in time as I seek creative ways to support the cause. (For instance, I could invite people to give to the scholarship for my birthday instead of giving me money.) I decided on the scholarship name with the help of my former pastor: The ‘Gina and Maurice Cordy Annual L.I.F.T. Scholarship.’ (Love Is Forever Transforming, or L.I.F.T., used to be the name of our church food pantry.) I wasn’t sure whether to include my name on the scholarship, but I hope that by doing so, my peers might be moved to create scholarships too!
We created the L.I.F.T. scholarship to honor my father, Pastor Leonard Tillotson, whose lifelong example of agape love toward others is a beautiful reflection of God’s love–the type of love that all God’s people should embody and extend. Pastor Tillotson could never do enough to help someone in need. This scholarship will continue his legacy by being available to help someone in need. – Rev. Gina Cordy.
Seminary alumni inspire us all, as they pour themselves out in love for others in their studies, their ministries and even through their giving. The Church prays for laborers (clergy and laity) to enter the harvest field, and God faithfully answers our prayers!
Likewise, we pray for his provision for students, and he supplies it through his generous people! Annual Scholarships are vital in advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ:
- Through Annual Scholarships, NTS underwrites 71% of actual tuition cost for every student!
- Giving to Annual Scholarships provides an immediate way to assist current students; funds can be received and awarded within the same year!
- 100% of an Annual Scholarship provides financial aid! (In comparison, endowed scholarships produce about a 5% earning for awarding to scholarship recipients after a period of investment.)
