Why Mentoring?

I've found the listening ear and graceful insight of mentors invaluable in my own life and ministry and I want to return that service, if I can. I'd also like to be someone who encourages young ministers to follow God's direction rather than attempting to reign them in.

Impactful Books

When the Church was a Family by Joseph Hellerman - it provides a biblical, counter-cultural argument for radical community in the church. I probably read Kreider's The Patient Ferment of the Early Church too late for it be influential, but I think it synthesizes and contextualizes the most poignant critics of modern evangelicalism, helping us to prioritize the urgency of faithfulness over the urgency of results. Brueggemann's The Prophet Imagination and NT Wright's Surprised by Hope both really helped to shape my sense of calling and my practical theology. Finally, I'd say I resonate greatly with the work and ideas of Peter Rollins - I think his notion of radical acceptance is important for whatever conception of Church comes next.
