I had good ones when I was at NTS and despite the fact that I wasn't destined to minister in the same way/place/context as them, I am continually amazed at how their mentorship enriched my life as I grew in ministry. I would just like to offer my life & ministry experience as an instrument for God to use however he wants in other's lives. There was no listing for Missions/Evangelism in the list of passions. Obviously, that is my area of ministry for the past 20 years but I'm open to any ministry focus.Impactful Books
Compassion by Henri Nouwen - Hit me at a time at NTS when I wasn't sure where all of this ministry stuff was headed. Helped me to realize that regardless of destination, the stuff of ministry is the stuff of a compassionate life of love acted out wherever you are.
Under the Unpredictable Plant by Eugene Peterson - Read it before I got into full time ministry and it was a warning sign at the time but since...its a book I return to when ministry life begins to go askew.
Narnia Series by C.S. Lewis - Read it yearly to remind myself (and my boys) how simple the Gospel story can be told.
The Preaching Life by Barbara Brown Taylor - Love her ability to communicate and inspire the preaching of God's word. She speaks/writes in a voice my hears/heart resonate with.
Liturgy of the Ordinary: Sacred practices in Everyday Life - Again, when ministry life gets too complicated this book has helped me keep my recognition of God's work in my life...simple.
