Long-term (6 months or more)Why Mentoring?
As a Navy Chaplain I have invested most of my pastoral/ministerial mentoring in younger chaplains outside the Church of the Nazarene. This is a way to invest more directly in the church. Mentoring is a way to help others with lessons learned from previous experience that can help inform the current reality of pastors. And it challenges the mentor to keep growing as well.Impactful Books
Surprised by Hope/NT Wright--the reality of the resurrection must shape all of our ministry.
The Pastor in a Secular Age: Ministry to People Who No Longer need a God/Andrew Root--understanding the development of pastoral identity in relation to the prevailing culture is essential in finding/sustaining pastoral identity in today's secular context.
For the Life of the Word: Theology that Makes a Difference/Miroslav Volf & Matthew Croasmun--an understanding of human flourishing as a theological imperative and eschatological reality gives direction to our ministry efforts.
