About The EVENT

Join us for "The First Preachers: Preaching the Power of the Resurrection," a dynamic preachers' conference centered around the transformative power of Jesus Christ's resurrection. This conference will focus on the significance of Christ's resurrection and its implications for preaching within the framework of God's plan to renew and restore creation.

It will also highlight and celebrate the women who have been preaching this resurrection news from the very beginning.

Join Dr. Deirdre Brower Latz along with Rev. Alicia McClintic, Rev. Althea Taylor, Dr. Samantha Chambo, and Dr. Shawna Songer Gaines in worship, plenary sessions, workshops, and fellowship.

Dr. Samantha Chambo

Samantha Chambo is currently serving as the USA/Canada Regional Education Coordinator for the Church of the Nazarene. A role she assumed May 2, 2022

Rev. Chambo is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and has been a local pastor in Mozambique and Johannesburg, South Africa.  On the regional level she has served as the coordinator for both NMI and Africa Women’s Clergy. Samantha has been a lecturer at Mozambique Seminary, Nazarene Theological College-South. She is married to her husband Dr. Filimao Chambo and they are blessed with two children Tsakani and Emanuel.  They currently reside in Lenexa, Kansas.

Rev. Alicia McClintic

Rev. Alicia McClintic is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene serving as the lead pastor of Selah Church of the Nazarene in Selah, Washington, a multi-generational neighborhood church seeking God together. She has been co-hosting the podcast for the online lectionary commentary A Plain Account since August 2018-- tune into "That'll Preach!" wherever you get your podcasts! She occasionally writes about faith & life for various publications and on her personal blog, and she shares weekly book reviews on her Instagram page @rev.alicia.reads. She cares deeply about the local & global church, the intersection of faith & art, and the Christian call to justice & peace-making. She spends her free time hunting for the best breakfast burrito, keeping tabs on her favorite California sports teams, procuring way too many books, and somehow never quite writing as many words-per-day as she would like.

Dr. Deirdre Brower Latz

Dr. Brower Latz has been principal of Nazarene Theological College since 2012. An ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, she has pastored churches in Bristol and Manchester. Recently, she has served as Researcher for the Church on the Margins project, Church Action on Poverty. Her University of Manchester Ph.D. thesis titled: ‘A Contextual Reading of John Wesley’s Theology and the Emergent Church: Critical Reflections on the Emergent Church Movement in Respect to Aspects of Wesley’s Theology, Ecclesiology and Urban Poverty’ was completed in 2010. She has academic expertise in the areas of urban mission and ministry (including issues of social justice and poverty), contextual and practical theology, and Wesleyan theology. Her publishing has been both at the popular level in relation to preaching and the life of holiness alongside chapters published a number of books.

Dr. Shawna Songer Gaines

Rev. Shawna Songer Gaines joined Trevecca Community Church of the Nazarene in December 2018 as the Lead Pastor. She previously served as chaplain at Trevecca Nazarene University, as co-pastor of Bakersfield Church of the Nazarene in California, and as a youth pastor in Chicago. She is the author of the Breathe series and the co-author of two books, A Seat at the Table and Kings and Presidents, with her husband, Tim. Shawna speaks and preaches at events nationwide. Pastor Shawna is married to Tim Gaines, Associate Pastor at Trevecca Community, and they have two children, Callen and Evalynne.

Rev. Althea Taylor

Rev. Althea Taylor serves as the Executive Director of the Tom Nees Center for Compassion, Justice, and Immigration and as the Acting Director of Clergy and Congregational Life. Prior to this, she was the Executive Pastor at Bronx Bethany Church of the Nazarene. She received a Master’s of Divinity from Howard University School of Divinity and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry from Nazarene Theological Seminary.
