What it's Like to Live in Hamburg, New York:
Nestled between the city of Buffalo and the rural countryside of the Southtowns, the Hamburg community is a place that offers unique excitement or serenity all year long. Hamburg hosts the third largest County Fair in the U.S., and you’ll find plenty of other celebrations, events, and things to do year-round. The month of May kicks off summertime fun with multiple outdoor festivals throughout the Town and both the Villages of Blasdell and Hamburg. Beginning with the Hamburg Farmers Market, celebrating its 41st season this year, brings over 100,000 people together from all over WNY and afar to shop for locally grown and made food items. It is one of the longest-running agriculture markets in NYS and runs from the first Saturday in May through the last Saturday in October.
This spring the Village of Hamburg unveiled its healthy neighborhood corridor additions by creating a fitness trail system throughout the Village and better access to community centers and new playgrounds for all to enjoy. See the historic sites and architecture that are on the National Historic Registry, take a nature hike down around the 18 Mile Creek tributary, and various animal sanctuaries for bird watching, or even snowshoeing. There are also over 2,549 running routes throughout the area. It almost goes without saying that the area boasts access to two of the Great Lakes- Erie and Ontario- two of the best freshwater resources on earth and providers of boating and fishing par excellence. Between the two is the beautiful Niagara Falls!
One final noteworthy characteristic of Greater Buffalo and Western New York- we get snow and lots of it. Winter sports are a part of life and in addition to the NFL Buffalo Bills, the Bisons, our Triple ‘A’ baseball team. Buffalo also boasts the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL. In Ellicottville- a short 25 miles south of Hamburg is great skiing at Holiday Valley and Holimont – two first-class winter resorts. Hamburg is the ‘Town that Friendship Built”. Whether you are a visitor to the area or are a resident of WNY, you will find a friendly atmosphere welcoming you to the charming region that really does have “Something for Everyone”.
