Continuing Education Emphasis
with Dr. Dan Boone, Dr. John A. Knight, Jr.,
Dr. Henry Spaulding, and Dr. Susan Welch Armstrong

  • Faculty Spotlight: Dr. John A. Knight, jr. (Winter, 2007)

We wish to offer special thanks to Dr. Knight, NTS Visiting Instructor of Philosophy of Religion and Christian Ethics. As we greet Dr. Spaulding, we offer a warm farewell to Dr. Knight. His service and presence in the NTS Community will be missed!
  • A Special Tribute - Dr. J. Kenneth Grider: The People's Theologian (Winter, 2007)

We are pleased to publish here excerpts from the many tributes we received on Dr. Grider's behalf, including the eulogy written by and delivered by Dr. Paul Bassett.
  • Alumni Spotlight - Dr. Dan Boone (Winter, 2007)

"I shudder to think about my ministry apart from the influence of NTS. I took every class that Willard Taylor taught. He gave me a love for serious study of Scripture. I was shaped by the practical theology of Dee Freeborn, the gentle spirit of Harvey Finley, the careful thinking of Rob Staples and Ken Grider, the mental rigor of Paul Bassett, the frisky persona of Charles Isbell, the joy of participating in a conversion with Chic Shaver, and the grace of Chet Galloway. I learned leadership, worship, and Wesley from William Greathouse. Take these influences from my life, and I am the poorer for lack of their mentoring."
  • Faculty Spotlight- Dr. Henry Spaulding (Winter, 2007)

Help us welcome Dr. Henry Spaulding to NTS as the new Professor of Philosophical Theology and Christian Ethics and Director of the Master of Divinity Degree Program.
  • Student Spotlight - Dr. Susan Welch Armstrong (Winter, 2007)

NTS almost feels like a second home to me. The other In-Service students become my temporary family each semester. We laugh and cry together, support, encourage and keep each other sane as we try to survive dorm life and eight hours a day in class for two weeks at a stretch.
  • Alumni Council Spotlight- More Tools in My Toolbox - Rev. Brent Peterson (Winter, 2007)

One of my undergraduate religion professors commented that going to Seminary after college would give me more tools in my toolbox. It was not until I was nearing my graduation from NTS and in my third year of professional ministry that I began to better understand what my professor had suggested. Education or knowledge is not some cognitive deposit of data that I “own” to feel more important or powerful.
  • My Bookshelf - Dr. Ron Benefiel and Dr. Steve McCormick (Winter, 2007)

This list is sampling of suggested resources and must reads for alumni from Dr. Ron Benefiel and Dr. Steve McCormick.
