Dr. David Busic will become the ninth President of Nazarene Theological Seminary. On Wednesday, August 31, the NTS Board of Trustees voted overwhelmingly to reaffirm the election of Busic as President. That action came in response to the re-nomination of Busic by the Board of General Superintendents following renewed conversations with Busic about the role.
Busic, who is currently Senior Pastor of Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, said he had become increasingly burdened in recent weeks about declining his election as NTS President in June. As the NTS Board continued the search process, Busic was praying for God either to release him or to confirm that he should re-engage in conversation with the Seminary. It was at that point that the Board of General Superintendents (which nominates presidential candidates per NTS bylaws) called Pastor Busic to invite his renewed consideration. After further prayer and reflection, Busic agreed, and his name was presented again to the NTS Board.
In response to the reaffirmation by the Board of Trustees, Busic has accepted the election and will be installed this fall as the ninth President of Nazarene Theological Seminary.
“The NTS community is delighted at the news that Dr. David Busic will be the ninth president of Nazarene Theological Seminary,” shared Dr. Roger Hahn, Dean of the Faculty and Willard H. Taylor Chair of Biblical Theology. “We are excited at the prospect of the vision and leadership he will bring as we serve the church and the world in the challenging and complex contexts of the 21st century. An NTS graduate, Dr. Busic has served as an adjunct professor for the Seminary and on the Board of Trustees (2005-2009). As part of the Faculty and Curriculum Committee of the Board of Trustees, his significant pastoral experience and strong commitment to the tradition of academic excellence at NTS brought a creative integration of ministry and theology. We eagerly anticipate Dr. Busic’s leadership at the Seminary.”
Busic has served as Senior Pastor at Bethany First Church since 2004. A current member of the Church of the Nazarene’s General Board, Busic previously pastored in Lenexa, Kansas (Kansas City Central) and Livermore, California (Vineyard Community). He is a graduate of Southern Nazarene University and Nazarene Theological Seminary. Since 2000, Busic served as co-editor of Preacher’s Magazine, and is one of the co-authors of the Pastor’s Guide to Effective Preaching. He and his wife, Christi, have three children: Megan, Ben, and Madison.
