My name is Wendel Moodley. I was born in Durban (South Africa). I am a preacher of the Word, and have a strong call to preach the Gospel and minister to God’s people in a variety of ways.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for the amazing scholarship that was presented to me which will enable me to pursue God’s call to study at NTS. I believe the Lord has been directing my steps to NTS, as He has laid studying at seminary strong within my heart.
We serve an awesome God! I thank God for the favor which He has bestowed upon my life. I have been through some tough situations, but I have seen the glory of God in and through each difficult patch. I am who I am today only by the grace of God. I was born into a Christian family and was dedicated in the Church of the Nazarene. Although some of my childhood was painful, God has used those experiences to shape me into the man I am today. Now that I come to think of it, God started to call me from a very young age, but it was on June 29, 2015 that I had my “Damascus” experience.
I started my theological studies in my home town of Durban at Durban Bible College, where I studied for 7 months. I then moved to Johannesburg and continued my studies at Nazarene Theological College. I have devoted my entire life to the ministry and I want to go on serving for the remainder of my time here on earth. God has given me such a burden for souls and a passion for reaching the lost. After attaining my Master’s Degree, I would like to on and further my studies to a Ph.D. (if it is the Lord’s will for me). My passion and flare for academics has stemmed from my passion to serve God and to study and show myself approved.
My motivation for furthering my studies is found in Paul’s letter to Timothy: “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needed not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15). As ministers of the Gospel, we need to be able to rightly divide the word of truth and this is why I feel that having my bachelor’s degree is not enough to go into full-time ministry. I also feel that God has called me to a lifetime of studying and want to pursue that with all my heart.
I believe that theology must be submitted to God, so that God can use it for His glory and honor. With that to say, my greatest desire in life is not just to know about God, but to know Him! I don’t want to start this degree only for the head knowledge, but I believe that the Lord wants me to study at this level so I can have a closer walk with Him as I submit my studies under His authority. Studying on this level is also going to be for others and for my service in the ministry.
