On November 29, Dr. D. Martin Butler delivered his induction address to the NTS community. Dr. Butler officially joined the administration and faculty at the start of the 2005 fall semester as Dean for Administration.
His induction address titled “Does God Care if the Kitchen is Clean?” addressed the three major functions of his position at NTS, that of a member of the faculty, a member of the administrative team, and a servant to the Seminary community. (Download the Address - PDF 50KB

Dr. Butler comes to NTS most recently from Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs where he has served as Vice President for Finance since October of 1996.
Butler has more than 25 years of experience in Christian higher education, including two positions he previously held at NTS: Business Manager (1980-1990) and Associate Director of Field Education (1978 – 1980). In addition, he has also served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Eastern Nazarene College (1994-1996) and Director of Planned Giving at Nazarene Headquarters (1990-1994). Previous to his administrative career, he served as pastor and associate pastor in the Church of the Nazarene.
Dr. Butler holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration/Educational Administration from the University of Missouri, the Doctor of Ministry and Master of Divinity degrees from NTS, the Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Missouri, the Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Southern Nazarene University, and the Associate of Arts degree from Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
Butler is the author of numerous articles and two books, and as an ordained elder, is a frequent speaker at churches and conferences. He and his wife Ruth have a son, Ryan, who is married and lives in Kansas City where he operates his own business. They also have one granddaughter.
