NTS Hosts Compassionate Ministry Leadership Summit

Nazarene Theological Seminary and Nazarene Compassionate Ministries recently co-sponsored the first-ever Compassionate Ministry Leadership Summit (CMLS).  The Summit, held on the NTS campus March 10-12, was attended by 40 student leaders who were nominated to attend to represent their Nazarene college/university (USA/Canada).

The CMLS was created to specifically focus on a Christian response to pressing issues of social justice such as war and violence, AIDS and healthcare, gender and race.  The event also gave participating students the opportunity to present papers they had written on social justice issues and dialogue with Nazarene Church leaders about them.

Natalie Trisilla, a political science major at Olivet Nazarene University who attended the event, shared the following about her experience:  “The CMLS left me with a renewed sense of hope and encouragement for facing incredibly complex and challenging issues.  It also provided me with a clearer understanding of the crucial relationship between a personal faith experience and working for the greater good of community; you simply cannot have one without the other.”

The CMLS coincided with the inaugural Nees Lectures on Social Justice, presented by Dr. Tom Nees, Director of Evangelism for USA/Canada.  To listen to a podcast of Dr. Nees’ lectures, log on www.nts.edu/chapel
