3 Urban Immersion Classes Offered at NTS this Summer

Nazarene Theological Seminary (NTS) is pleased to once again offer a full scholarship to students enrolled in its summer modular course "Theology of Work." The course will be offered May 11-18 (see course schedule at http://www.nts.edu/course-schedules for times) and will be taught by Dr. Fletcher Tink, NTS Adjunct Faculty and Executive Director of the Bresee Institute for Metro-Ministries (BIMM).   Funding for the course is provided by the Mustard Seed Foundation in the form of a grant to NTS so that graduate students enrolled in the seminar (a 3 credit hour course) need only pay applicable registration fees; the scholarship will cover the remaining tuition.  Individuals may also take the course for non-credit through BIMM.

“Theology of Work” is focused on training Christian professionals to empower lay people to fulfill their mission potential in their various vocations, to leverage Christian witness and transformation in their workaday worlds.  It also seeks to recruit lay people who perhaps have never taken a seminary level course before and those unsure about their vocational call.  A feature of the seminar will be an entire day of visits to a wide variety of lay leaders and business people who are utilizing their positions to leverage ministry in the marketplace.

Dr. Tink will also teach the following NTS urban immersion courses this summer:

"Urban Immersion: Seeing Orlando Through Christ's Eyes,” occurring June 24 – July 1 (during the timeframe of the Nazarene Church’s General Assembly and Conventions in Orlando), will examine the Church's call and the response of urban and youth ministries.  Students will participate in all-day traveling sessions each day, with the exception of Saturday and Sunday.  A course administration fee ($350) will cover housing and local transportation; students will be responsible for course tuition and transportation to and from Orlando.

The second seminar, “Urban Immersion: Cost Rica,” will take place July 13 - 18 in San Jose, Costa Rica, at the Nazarene Seminary SENDAS.  This seminar, done jointly with the Bakke Graduate University and co-taught by Dr Randy White and various leading Latin American scholars, will feature field visits to ministries throughout San Jose, and will offer an optional final day trip into the northern jungles, coffee fields, and volcanic sites.  A course administration fee ($300) will cover room and board, and local transportation; students will be responsible for course tuition and transportation to and from San Jose.

For additional information on any of these valuable learning opportunities that combine theology, ministry practice, and contextual understanding of the Gospel, as well as other education opportunities at NTS, contact the Office of Admissions at 800.831.3011, ext. 5452, enroll@nts.edu, or www.nts.edu.  Dr. Tink may be reached at 816.268.5496 or at fletcht@aol.com.
