This year, Rev. Stephanie Lobdell (pictured far left) was selected by the NTS Faculty to represent the Class of 2012 by delivering the corlett senior sermon on commencement Sunday morning, May 13, 2012, at Kansas City First Church of the Nazarene.
Lobdell, along with Rev. Dylon Brown (pictured above, center) and Rev. Libby Tedder (pictured above, far right) were the three Corlett finalists this year, each preaching during one of the Seminary’s spring chapel services in late March. The Corlett Senior Sermon is an annual tradition at NTS. The late Mr. Eric A. Mabes, a prominent Kansas City Realtor, established the Corlett Senior Sermon Award in the interest of developing an incentive for more effective preaching. He sponsored the award from 1945 to 1966. In 1966, Dr. and Mrs. L. T. Corlett, as a symbol of their continuing interest in the future ministry of the church, assumed the sponsorship of this award. Several years ago, Mr. Wes Blachly took over sponsorship of this important annual tradition in the life of NTS, permanently endowing the award and sermon series.
