Additional Faculty Spotlight: Drs. Lyle Pointer & Henry Spaulding

Here are two additional faculty members who will be moving on from NTS this year. Our prayers and highest hopes go with Dr. Lyle Pointer and Dr. Henry Spaulding and their families as they each move into the next chapter of their lives and ministries. Below, members of the NTS Community express words of praise and appreciation for their contributions to and impact on NTS.

DR. LYLE POINTER

“Lyle has served for nine years as Professor of Evangelism at NTS. He is, by all accounts, the foremost authority on church growth and evangelism in the Church of the Nazarene. By pastoring the Blue Springs Nazarene Church while teaching, he has stayed connected to what is happening in the local congregation and brought those experiences to the classroom. Out of his passion for the development of evangelistic leaders, Lyle Pointer has made a significant contribution to the work of NTS.”
— NTS PRESIDENT DR. RON BENEFIEL

“Dr. Pointer’s obvious passion for evangelism is contagious. My experience as a student in his class ‘Evangelism Through the Local Church’ added fuel to my own desire to see the local church reach the surrounding community. I have since declared Evangelism as my emphasis and anticipate that this will help equip me to effectively share the love of Christ with people from within their own context.”
— MICHELLE GAWITH, CURRENT NTS STUDENT

“My first class with Dr. Pointer was ‘Building a Church for the Unchurched.’ That was the first of several classes in which my ‘church perception’ of the world drastically changed. Dr. Pointer taught me the importance of a personal and conversational style of evangelism, new ways for the Church to dynamically reach out.”
— CHRIS BRANIGAN, CURRENT NTS STUDENT

DR. HENRY SPAULDING

“Henry Spaulding, while the newest addition to the NTS faculty (2007-2009) has made a significant contribution in the classroom, the faculty community, and in giving direction to the Master of Divinity Degree Program. His time at NTS has been short, but very beneficial.”
— NTS PRESIDENT DR. RON BENEFIEL

“Dr. Henry Spaulding has been a defining characteristic of my tenure at NTS. His classes have been formative. His humor, his insight, and his guidance are irreplaceable. He will be missed.”
— ANDREW SCHWARTZ (‘09)

“Honest man…wise…surprisingly pastoral…teacher and friend. Although I only had the pleasure of learning from Dr. Spaulding for a short time, I am privileged to have had the opportunity. Dr. Spaulding’s graciousness and willingness to help are unmatched. Dr. Spaulding earnestly seeks to help his students, did just that with me. NTS will surely miss Dr. Spaulding’s humor, honesty, and desire to serve his students in addition to teaching them. Thank you Dr. Spaulding, and best wishes.”
— JOHN BECHTOLD (‘08)
